68 People Found in Shipping Container in Harwich
Sixty-eight immigrants were discovered in a shipping container at Harwich International Port on Thursday during a routine check by the border police.
The container was transported from Hook of Holland on a Stena Line ferry, the BBC reports.
The group that is comprised of people from various nationalities included two pregnant women who have been sent to a Colchester General Hospital with other five people complaining of abdominal and chest pains.
The remaining immigrants were handed over to the UK Border Agency.
In August 2014, 35 Afghani Sikhs were found in a shipping container in the UK port of Tilbury, one of them dead as he had suffocated in the airless container.
The incident raised concerns that the case might be a sign of new trend being pursued by human traffickers that involved putting humans in shipping containers as it has proved a good way of avoiding security checks.
